A new ride?

It is not very often that I am actually tempted by a new vehicle but every once in a while a car company will do something different.
One of my criteria when getting a new/new to me vehicle is, how many other people have one? or does it look exactly like every other damn car/truck on the road? I want to drive something different.
Currently I have a 2002 Corvette and a 1969 El Camino. I didn't actually buy the El Camino because it was an El Camino. It was just conveniently available and fit the different criteria. Plus I needed a new truck after a snow storm and a deeeep ditch got the better of my 1968 Chevy truck. Over all it's been a great ride.

So the other day I see that Pontiac is going to release a new vehicle for 2010. The G8 Sport Truck. It is basically the exact same front (from the bumper to the back of the front door) as their new G8 Sport Coupe. However once you get past the front door things change.

So there you have it. The El Camino reborn. :)
The more I read about this vehicle the more I like it. It is definitely different. It meets my truck requirement. And the thing freakin' hauls! 6.0 liter Vortec V8, 361 HP, 385 lb.-ft. of torque, 3500 lb. towing, and over 1000 lb. haul capacity. Plus it will get you from 0-60 in just over 5 seconds. :)
The truck is actually an import/remake of the Holden VE Ute, produced by Holden (GM's Australian division). Then new G8 Sport Truck is actually supposed to be built in Australia and imported to the US.

I've been wanting a new truck since 1998 (some how managed to accidently buy a Corvette in 2001 /shrug). I've been looking at the new Nissan Titan as well and the Chevy Silverado. I have also considered one of the smaller size trucks like the Nissan Fronteer or the Chevy Colorado but they seemed more expensive than they are worth. This new Pontiac is supposed to side in right under $30,000. That places it just below the full size Nissan and well below the full size Chevy (with at least the basic features i want). It is a bit pricey but you sure get a lot of bang for your buck.

Will I buy on in late 2009? Who knows. I will seriously be thinking about it. Especially if I manage to get my student loans paid off by then. :)
But I really don't want a car payment. It is nice not having one...
